Texas-Based IPTV Producer Relies on Orad's ProSet to Make a 'Splash' at Lone Star Emmy® Awards
July 24, 2008 -- DMN Newswire--2008-7-24--Orad Hi-Tec Systems, a leading provider of broadcast graphics solutions, today announced that Splash Media of Dallas, Texas, relied on its ProSet solution to create an Emmy® award-winning IPTV show set in the virtual laboratory of a mad scientist. The winning video, "Dr. Brown's Photoshop Laboratory," teaches tricks of the trade to millions of Adobe® Photoshop® users, and is now available online at Adobe TV (www.tv.adobe.com).
"Orad's reliable virtual set technology enabled me to jump in, express my ideas, and create stunning online educational work efficiently and cost-effectively," said Splash Media Creative Director Brad Murano. "I spent a previous life shooting on back lots, so it's a revelation and an absolute joy to create sets using ProSet â?? it's a very cool sandbox for me to play in."
Dr. Brown's laboratory is one of more than 100 virtual sets Murano has created using Orad's ProSet solution, a high-end HD/SD virtual set system that imports models, along with their geometry, textures, and animations, directly from Orad's 3-D Studio design platforms, Max and Maya. ProSet uses Orad's signature HDVG (high-definition video graphics) rendering platform, which affords unmatched power and robustness to ensure that a set as complex as Dr. Brown's will run glitch-free and in real time.
ProSet also has enabled Splash Media to bring development of its virtual sets in-house, relying on the talents, skills, and experience of Murano and the rest of his team to do so. This has proven to be a more cost-effective production solution than outsourcing, yielding a superior return on investment for Splash.
Based on initial drawings provided by the client, the Splash Media team developed the high-concept virtual set, which was different from anything they had ever produced. Splash Media normally creates realistic-looking virtual sets, but this production is completely fanciful â?? including animated elements like a stylized TV screen that drops down from the ceiling, a Tesla coil, and a plasma reactor.
"Dr. Brown's Photoshop Laboratory," starring Russell Brown, Adobe's senior creative director, won the Lone Star Emmy for Excellence in Informational and Instructional Programming, presented at the Advanced Media Awards this summer. In addition to "Dr. Brown's Photoshop Laboratory," Splash Media has produced five more original Adobe TV shows, each relying on ProSet virtual sets.
"Flexible and adaptable Orad graphics solutions enable IPTV innovators like Splash Media to offer top quality, creative services for a wide variety of clients, each with different needs and design expectations," said Avi Sharir, president and CEO of Orad. "ProSet is a highly reliable, virtual enhancement solution that enables the creation of virtual sets guaranteed to captivate online audiences around the world."
